I’m having a hell of a time with this project but I rather like how this came out.
I watched Fantasia today. Maybe not my favorite short, but definitely my favorite characters. I always thought the crocodile was rather dashing. Drawn from memory and photographed with my phone under my desk in the following class.
I was out for a walk, and when I stopped at a cafe, it wasn’t in my purse.
DUN DUN DUNNN
So I freaked out. I walked very quickly back to my apartment in the hopes that it was there. It was not.
I retraced the steps of my entire walk, which was pretty freaking long to begin with.
It wasn’t nearly this happy but as a Who fan I think I’m required to use a 500 miles gif when talking about walking now.
It was exhausting, and there was no sign of my phone.
I had some friends call it, and I used the FindMyiPhone app, which… didn’t work. Nonetheless, I kept sending messages to it. Every ten minutes or so. I kind of hoped that if someone had stolen it it would annoy them into submission.
“NO THIS IS PATRICK!”
Nope.
“Nope.”
I moped my way through Japanese class, to the point where Sensei was worried I was ill.
Guhhh
Then I went home and tried to cheer myself up, still vainly checking my email.

I watched a lot of Whose Line.
It helped a bit.
Then I binged on Torchwood fanfics.
This is canon dialogue from the show, actually.
I kept reaching for where my phone usually is on my nightstand only for it to not be there.
“There are no phones!”
BUT THEN

I was so excited, I couldn’t wait for her to email me. Turns out she’d picked it up before I’d even noticed it was missing. And she heroically saved it from being hit by a truck.
I don’t have any gifs of trucks, just heroes.
So now I’m all giddy about it.
…There may have been some happydancing.
This girl. She is my hero.

Favorite Animal Side Character:
Another tough choice. There are a lot I like, both working for villains and heroes. Though there are quite a few I dislike, too…
See, a lot of recent Disney movies seem to throw in animal side characters just because it’s what they usually do. They don’t have any real relevance to the plot beyond the occasional gag, and even those tend to be unmemorable.
So with that in mind, my favorite animal side characters are the ones that are actually important to the story and/or well developed.
So I’m going to say… Abu!
See, while Aladdin’s totally out of it, too busy pining over Jasmine to do anything useful…
Abu’s out there stealing the food and money they’re gonna need later. And doing other useful things like breaking Aladdin out of prison. That’s pretty freaking awesome.
Also let’s not forget the part where he bites Jafar and obtains the lamp! (Why can’t I find a gif of this?) Without him, the whole movie would have just ended with Al trapped forever and Jafar taking over Agrabah and all kinds of bad things.
…not that he’s infallible.
This also applies to the other side characters in Aladdin: Iago is the mastermind behind the marry-Jasmine plan, Carpet’s a matchmaker, Rajah… well, Rajah’s just kind of cool.
(Runners up: Sebastian, Roger Rabbit, Bagheera)
Also: the winner would be the entire cast of Winnie-the-Pooh, if only I could decide if they’re all main characters or all side characters.

Favorite Animal Heroine:
Nala!
I just love her. She’s adorable.
She kicks ass.

I don’t really have any in-depth explanation for this, I just really like the character.

Oh god it’s so hard to choose. I mean, does it include side-villains? And I already said ‘no repeats’ so I can’t use anyone I want for a future answer….

….Chim Chim Cher-ee just came on my iTunes. Awesome.
In any case, nobody specified that we could only use animated movies, and I love Mary Poppins, and I love Bert.
I mean, he seems just as mysterious as Mary. He just comes out of nowhere and helps people! And he knows everything.
Only he’s crazy.
And he’s an awesome dancer! I mean come on.
And that’s all I have to say about that. Except of course:

Favorite Animal Hero:
Pongo!
Why Pongo? Because he’s awesome. He’s just an ordinary dog, trying to live his life, look after his human, take care of his puppies.
He’s such a great dad, and his relationship with Roger is perfect too. They’re so in sync.
And when his puppies are kidnapped, he and Perdi travel across the country, in winter, on foot, to find them again. And he not only saves his kids, he adopts 84 more. And makes sure they all get home safely.
Love Pongo in the book, love Pongo in the movie.

Day 2: Favorite (human (or mermaid I guess)) Heroine
Um.
Uhhhhhh.
This one is much harder! I have a lot of heroines I like, and none of them really stand out above the others. I don’t have an instinctive answer like I did with heroes.
I guess I’d have to go with Belle.
What can I say, I’m a sucker for bookworms. She’s smart and independent and not afraid to stick up for herself, even while being very nice.
She doesn’t quite achieve the same level of badassery as my runners up (Jasmine, Ariel, Mulan), but I rather like that she’s a strong character without losing that gentleness that the older Disney Princess had. She’s not an angry rebel or a complete misfit, she’s just sort of odd and okay with that.
And of course there’s the whole falling-in-love-with-a-person-not-a-face component. You know. The point of the movie.
First off, I’m going to assume this just means movies, because if I have to think about shows and games *coughkingdomheartscough* I’m just going to confuse myself. I don’t think I’ll include Pixar either. Pixar should have its own meme.
Also I’ve decided to have no repeat answers! Just to keep things interesting. Because skimming the list I’ve got like three Genies and two Bernards.
Favorite (human) Hero:
I feel like I want to have a more exciting answer, but… No matter how hard I think about it, nobody can top Aladdin.
He’s one of the only Disney princes who actually does anything! He can look after himself, he takes action when he wants something, he’s a well-rounded character and not a flat love interest type. Most of the other fairy tale movies focus on the princesses, so having a developed prince is just…. awesome.
Aaaand he’s one of my first animated crushes.
